Shellac gel manicure: colour that lasts without chipping
Glossy colour applied and cured under an LED lamp, up to 3 weeks without chipping, on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
What is a gel (shellac) manicure?
A gel manicure, what most people call shellac, is a gel colour brushed on in thin layers over your natural nail and then set under an LED lamp in seconds. You feel a brief warmth while it cures, and nothing more. By the time you stand up the colour is already hard: no waiting around, no pillow marks, no smudging at the bottom of your bag. The finish stays glossy and crisp for two to three weeks with no chipping, even through dishes and a daily keyboard. To make it last, keep cuticle oil within reach and come back to the salon for removal, which is done by gentle soaking rather than scraping the nail.
Shellac vs regular polish vs Bio gel
Shellac (gel)
- Cured under LED
- Lasts 2-3 weeks
- Long-lasting gloss
Regular polish
- Air-dries
- Easy at-home removal
- Lasts a few days
Bio gel
- Builder gel
- Strengthens + length
- Thicker than shellac
Who is it for?
- Anyone who wants colour that lasts with no touch-ups
- Busy schedule, no time for drying
- Crisp gloss and colour for an event
- Healthy natural nails (no added length needed)
- Pairs with a Russian manicure for a clean edge
How long does it last?
Expect 2 to 3 weeks without chipping. Removal is done by soaking in-salon to protect the nail: avoid picking or peeling the colour off yourself.
What to expect
Shaping and cuticle care, base coat, two colour coats and a top coat, each cured under an LED lamp. You leave with hands ready for anything, no drying time. Expect 45 to 60 minutes.

How much is a gel manicure?
From $45, depending on the colour and design. The total is set up front, so nothing shifts when it's time to pay.
Are shellac and a gel manicure the same thing?
"Shellac" is a gel-polish brand that turned into an everyday word. Here, gel manicure and shellac mean the same long-wear colour cured under an LED lamp.
How long should I set aside in the salon?
Plan for 45 to 60 minutes: shaping, cuticle care, base coat, two colour coats and a top coat, each cured under the lamp. You leave with dry hands and zero waiting.
How do I get the gel off without damaging my nails?
We soak it off in-salon, never prying it up. The one thing to avoid is peeling the colour off yourself, which lifts a thin layer of natural nail with it.
What helps it last longer?
Daily cuticle oil keeps the nail flexible and slows lifting at the edges. Keep nail clippers in your bag too, instead of picking at a sticker with your thumbnail.
